today is the birthday of my late grandfather on my mother side salvador gesmundo..i always remember him bringing me something whenever he visits me when he's still leaving..when i was a kid he brought me toys that's amde by his own hands...one day i showed my dad my drawing that was when i was 3yrs old..and it was an eagle so i showed it to him he said it looks like a monkey spreading his arms and legs lol and im really off that time and then my grandpa came i showed it to him he said it looks like a bat...and he thought im great lol i said no lolo(the way we call grandad here in the philippines) it's an eagle i cant forget how he laughed at my work lol so he asked me to give him a paper and a pencil and he draw me an eagle..i was amazed it really looks like an eagle...and then i remember tracing it so i could memorized the strokes and how it looks..so the next time he visited me i showed ot to him..this time i put colors on it...and again he find it funny cause i put yellow and green on it's feathers lol and again he tought me how to put colors on it that time and from then on he became my inspiration to do better on drawings and colorings....he always encourage me to join the contests though i said no..i miss him so much today cause he always wants our families especially his daughters/son (my mom her sisters and a brother) to always spend time to be together from the moment that he was about to die he always say that and he got his wish....though i never really cry on his burial ceremony cause the happy memories with him overwhelmed the sadness...in my heart and my mind he's not dead..he's just there on his house with his family..i really find it weird when i was young that i have 2 aunts that is younger than me lol

  remember this guys..i got it from a friend i think 4 years ago...

            WITHIN EVERY PERSON THEE IS A CAPACITY TO DO OR BE SOMETHING ESPECIAL....EACH PERSON HAS A MISSION IN LIFE, AND THE DESIRE AND TALENT TO GET THERE IS WITHIN EACH OF US. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF FINDING OUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOUR SPECIAL GIFTS ARE....

                ~~~~~******~~~~~~*****~~~~***
                  i just wanna say this...portraiture is not just about the likeness but by capturing the emotions, expressions, moods, aura and the personality of the subject so it's better  to master them first before you focus on the details.
TIPS!TIPS!TIPS!
tips on shading and blending(FAQs)
ok let me start in general rules....
-dont hurry on making a portrait you're creating a masterpiece not a mess!!!
-for shading starting with the darkest is much better..
-the number one rule dont leave any lines unblended,blend it with the shadings(but dont over blend esp. on the folds on the eyelids, the nostrils and the lines on the upper and lower lips and lemme include the limbal ring of the eyes,the hair, lashes, eyebrows, facial stabbles, mustache, beard and te lines for sections of the hair.
let me share you how to make my blending tool w/c i use for smaller details like wrinkles,fine lines, wrinkly lips, details of the iris..
- tear a piece of tissue(make it a long rectangular shaped)then roll it into a knitting needle,make sure that the tip is alos covered to avoid scratches on your paper.rub it to the paper diagonally..ok?:D
and of course my sharpened eraser:D
- if you want to have like mine.buy a stick shaped eraser..i know a brand w/c sells it MAPED,choose the one w/c shapes like a blade for the cutter.then cut a piece of that,diagonally so you will have a flat-shaped end.
you can achieve lots of realism by using this like the shiny.moist parts of the eyes, lips, hair, and skin, jewelries, blades etc.
ok here i go even this may sounds a bit redundant:
WRINKLY LIPS: after lining the shape of the lips again start with the darkest shades to lightest. put the details(lines for the wrinkles)then blend it.always try to be carefuldoin the contrast..then for the lightet/lush/gloss just use the sharpened eraser.then blend the lipline with the shading.
HAIR: let me explain it by using numbers(this is applicable for both straight and curly hair as well as to their shadings wether its dark or light shades.
1)the shape of the entire hair or the canopy
2)line the sections
3)shadings: darkest to lightest
4)the shine(sharpened eraser)
5)line the sections again then blend
6)visible shiny strands; sharpened eraser
SKIN
when it comes to shadings hold your pencil diagonally.for me using tissue for blending(esp. on the cheeks, forehead, neck, arms. achest)can give your subject's skin lush.if there are some spots that cause by the pencil w/c in turn make the skin a bit ugly ( i always have a problem with this one esp. if there's a poor lightings on the refference pics)  just use the sharpened eraser(the pointed one) then work on them again until it blends on its "respective contrasts" :D
    and this one came from a comment...you should know or somehow discover how to make your subjects looks alive, there are some parts that you need to tone down..to enhance the realism. honestly speaking...i still have'nt learn so much about that :lol:
what else.....?!
   about the limbal ring of the eyes it is not a whole circle it's a bit scaley(for close up shots.
   and dont make the facial skin too smooth it will look like a plastic. you can also ues sharpened eraser for the pores(just shape it like a steep triangle so you will have a pointed tip)just dub it as if your putting dots...
SHADOWS:
      be very careful on putting shadows if the refference pics have a poor lightings.remember it's a shadows not a blackhole!!!!the texture underneath must able to be glimpsed.and there must be a fade out dont put visible lines on the edges os the shadows make it more of a shading.
for other questions just send me a note ok:D
CIAO!!!
i forgot to say that RETOUCHING is very important!!!!!!:giggle:
hey guys i just discoverd some thing.you should try this esp. for those who want to put details on their work. in a piece of paper(maybe 2") create a window inside of that,when youre done...put it at the top of your refference photo then just like you will take a picture using a camera focused it on the part where you want to capture all the details.go ahead try it promise there's a lot difference :D
That's nice, that you have such nice memories of your grandfather. Both of mine died, when I was 2 and my family is not that nice... I have 1 grandma, that doesn't really care, what's up with me, she only takes care of my stupid uncle, that only wants her money and flat and so on... It's a pity. -.- But I think it's great that your grandfather taught you how to draw and not just laughed at you. It's very important to motivate. :)
Happy Birthday to your late grandpa! If he is the one who encouraged your creativity then he was an amazing man. Your artwork is more than beautiful! :)
I would venture to guess he is still a muse who whispers in your ears when you are creating :)
